Greece’s Finance Minister Pierrakakis Leads Eurogroup Talks in Dublin Amid Energy Cost Surge
Greek finance minister and Eurogroup president Kyriakos Pierrakakis arrived in Dublin for Eurogroup and informal ECOFIN meetings as soaring energy prices dominate EU economic debates.
Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Greece’s National Economy and Finance Minister and Eurogroup President, traveled to Dublin for a two-day series of Eurogroup and informal ECOFIN meetings on September 18-19. The Eurogroup agenda will concentrate on enhancing productivity and growth across the eurozone, encouraging innovation, investment and further integration of the European market, with participation from OECD secretary-general Mathias Cormann and European Parliament Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs chair Aurore Lalucq.
At the informal ECOFIN gathering, EU finance ministers and central bank governors will exchange views on macro-economic trends, financial stability and the strategic priorities of EU economic policy, all framed by renewed pressure from rising energy prices. Pierrakakis is scheduled to meet Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin and later speak at the Eurofi Financial Forum, a major gathering of the financial sector. He will also hold bilateral talks with other counterparts and, on Saturday, join a public discussion with Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Simon Harris at the Fine Gael Small Business & Enterprise Conference.
Why it matters
The meetings will shape EU economic policy as energy costs strain households and businesses across the bloc.
