Greek director Elina Psykou adds veteran stars to Venice market drama
Greek filmmaker Elina Psykou has secured three renowned Greek actors for her new film “Patrimonial Fears and Other Illusions,” which will debut at the Venice Gap-Financing Market.
Greek director Elina Psykou, known for the documentary “Stray Bodies,” has bolstered her upcoming feature “Patrimonial Fears and Other Illusions” with a trio of prominent Greek performers: veteran actress Xenia Kalogeropoulou, Locarno best-actor laureate Antonis Kafetzopoulos, and Hellenic Film Academy award-winning Makis Papadimitriou. The narrative tracks three women from the same family as they face intergenerational trauma while a magician prepares an illusion that could erase the Acropolis from view.
Psykou describes the film as an exploration of everyday fears, lies, and violence that hinder honest communication and personal freedom. The film is a joint production by Greek companies Jungle Films, Homemade Films and StudioBauhaus, Dutch studio Ruba, and Cyprus’s Bark Like a Cat Films, backed by Eurimages, Creative Europe MEDIA, the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center, ERT, the Netherlands Film Fund and Cyprus’s Deputy Ministry of Culture. It will be showcased at the Venice Gap-Financing Market from September 4-6, aiming to attract international financing.
