Greek minister unveils relocation incentives and new childcare support for remote regions

During a televised interview, Social Cohesion and Family Minister Domna Michailidou detailed a multi-part strategy to boost population growth in Greece’s peripheral zones. She confirmed that an online portal will open in October, allowing families to apply for relocation assistance that combines monetary support, services and infrastructure upgrades. Specific measures for Kastellorizo include a new kindergarten, a school and extra incentives for essential workers like physicians.

The Demographic Development Programme, initially launched in Evros, will now extend to seven of the eight municipalities in the Ioannina regional unit as well as the municipalities of Souli and Filatón in Thesprotía. In parallel, the government has enhanced early-childhood care by raising the income threshold for voucher eligibility and increasing voucher values, while the "Neighbourhood Nannies" scheme has recruited roughly three thousand new caregivers who meet strict safety and health criteria.
