Greek MPs and Israeli lobby meet at Athens Club, sparking political clash

A private gathering of Israeli lobby officials and numerous Greek parliamentarians at the Athens Club drew criticism and prompted a dispute between Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and PASOK MP Pavlos Chrystidis.

Reporters United filmed a covert assembly at the Athens Club involving the Israel Allies Foundation and Israel's ambassador alongside top New Democracy officials, former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and a slate of Greek legislators. Attendees identified included Adonis Georgiadis, Thanos Plevris, Nikos Kerameos, Kostas Karagounis, Stavros Kalafatis, Kostas Tsiaras, Andreas Nikolaopoulos, Dimitris Markopoulos, Diamantis Gkolidas, mayor Grigoris Konstantellos, PASOK MP Pavlos Chrystidis, independent MP Giannis Kontis, businessman Theodoros Karypidis, former Super League chief Grigoris Dimitriadis and actress Mimi Denisi.

The Israel Allies Foundation is linked to Israel's far-right, and Israeli minister of technology Gila Gamliel was also present. After the coverage, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis denounced the Reporters United team and criticized Chrystidis, who responded with a letter stating he attended only briefly, had no talks with the Israeli ambassador, and reiterated PASOK's firm position on international law violations in Gaza.

Why it matters

The meeting highlights Greece's growing ties with Israel and the domestic political fallout over foreign policy alignment.
