Greek police bust Thessaloniki drug ring that courted minors via Telegram and crypto payments

Authorities in Thessaloniki dismantled a drug trafficking network that used Telegram to approach minors and accepted cryptocurrency, seizing cannabis and cocaine and arresting three members.

A specialized DEA team in Thessaloniki broke up a drug-distribution ring that leveraged encrypted platforms such as Telegram to contact minors and coordinate sales. The network provided buyers with directions for acquiring different narcotics and required payment through cryptocurrencies, employing covert methods to avoid detection. Initial arrests began with an 18-year-old found in possession of 3.5 kg of cannabis; subsequent undercover operations led to the capture of two additional domestic members, aged 25 and 30, along with 120 g of cocaine.

Investigators also seized precision weighing equipment and a crypto-payment device during searches of the suspects’ residences. All three individuals were transferred to the competent prosecutor’s office under auto-forward procedures. The investigation continues to locate and dismantle remaining cells of the organization.
