Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis used his weekly briefing to stress Greece’s growing role as a stability pillar, citing the recent visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and new cooperation in energy and defence.

In his regular weekly address, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the significance of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Athens, describing it as evidence of Greece’s solidifying position as a regional stability pillar. He pointed to deepening energy cooperation, with the East Mediterranean Gas Corridor opening new routes for natural gas to Europe and opportunities to use US LNG, while also mentioning defence cooperation ranging from upgraded F-16s to future F-35 integration and joint procurement programmes.

Domestically, Mitsotakis announced direct electricity subsidies for high-consumption industries, a doubled subsidy for fishing fuel during the summer months, and full state compensation for homes in Crete damaged by extreme weather, alongside a 70% aid rate for business equipment. Additional initiatives include investments in health, education, and infrastructure projects such as a new gold-copper mine in Skouriotissa and upgrades to the 112 emergency system.
