GS Entec wins contract to deliver 37 monopiles for Taean offshore wind farm
GS Entec, a GS Global subsidiary, will manufacture and supply 37 monopiles for the 504-MW Taean offshore wind project, with production starting in July 2027 and deliveries ending by August 2028.
GS Entec, a subsidiary of GS Global, secured a contract to provide 37 monopile foundations for the 504-megawatt Taean offshore wind farm located off the coast of Taean in South Chungcheong Province. The agreement, signed at the Seoul headquarters of Taean Wind Power, sets production to start in July 2027 with final deliveries due by the end of August 2028. Monopiles, cylindrical steel structures effective in waters up to about 50 meters deep, are chosen because the shallow, sediment-rich conditions around Taean suit this foundation type.
GS Entec, which entered the monopile market in 2022 through a partnership with Dutch firm Sif and delivered all 64 monopiles for the Yeonggwang Nakwol project in 2023, will use its recently expanded plant—boosted from 40,000 to 150,000 tons annual capacity after a 300 billion-won investment. The wind farm, jointly developed by Singapore’s Vena Energy, Denmark’s Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Korea Western Power, is slated to begin construction in 2028, finish in 2030, and generate enough electricity for about 300,000 households. The company also eyes future foundation contracts, including a potential role in the 340-megawatt Hanbit project and expansion into Japan and other Asia-Pacific markets.
Why it matters
The deal expands South Korea's domestic capacity to build offshore wind foundations, supporting renewable energy growth and job creation.
