GSK partners with Cognizant to embed AI agents in drug-safety workflow

GSK is working with Cognizant to introduce AI-driven agents that will streamline the handling of pharmacovigilance reports and cut manual processing time.

GSK has teamed up with Cognizant to redesign its pharmacovigilance process by adding AI-based agents that classify, prioritize and route safety reports to the right specialists. While existing safety systems will remain the source of truth, the new architecture will preserve data context and reduce duplicated entry across teams. The proposal envisions around 40 dedicated agents handling tasks such as coding, evidence retrieval and parallel workflow execution.

Human reviewers will still approve any regulated decision, with audit trails built in to ensure traceability. The initiative also includes new metrics focused on cutting processing time by half and shortening signal-to-decision intervals by 40 percent. Early results have encouraged GSK to move beyond pilot projects toward broader production use.

Why it matters

Improving drug-safety data flow can speed up detection of medication risks and reduce regulatory delays.
