GST Council to limit rate changes to annual reviews starting April 1
The GST Council said future tax rates will be reviewed only once a year and will take effect on April 1, not mid-year.
At its 57th meeting, the GST Council announced that the Goods and Services Tax rate structure will stay largely unchanged for the next five to six years. It will be examined annually, with any adjustments becoming effective on April 1 rather than during the fiscal year. The council also approved a set of procedural reforms aimed at streamlining its operations, providing greater predictability for businesses.
Why it matters
Annual, April-1-only GST changes aim to give businesses predictable tax rates and simplify fiscal planning.
