Guidewire to acquire UK AI underwriting firm hyperexponential for up to $2.1 billion
Guidewire announced it will purchase London-based AI insurer hyperexponential for $1.7 billion in cash, with an additional $400 million possible if revenue targets are met.
The acquisition aims to integrate hyperexponential's AI-driven underwriting and pricing tools into Guidewire's platform for commercial property and casualty insurers. Guidewire will finance the deal with $1 billion of new term loans from Bank of America and Citibank, supplemented by cash reserves. The transaction is slated to close in the second quarter of Guidewire’s fiscal 2027 and will not alter its first-quarter outlook. Hyperexponential’s technology will enable AI agents to work alongside human underwriters to assess risk and set prices.
Why it matters
The deal expands Guidewire's AI tools, potentially reshaping underwriting practices for insurers worldwide.
