Gujarat Postal Worker Leaps from 1,700-Foot Cliff, Calls for Domestic Violence Law Reform

A Gujarat postal employee died after jumping from a 1,700-foot gorge, leaving a video urging changes to domestic-violence legislation.

On Oct 12, Vishwaraj Gohil, a postal employee residing in Chitra, Bhavnagar, leapt from the nearly 1,700-foot-deep Konkankada gorge near Harishchandragad. He had posted a 13-minute video in which he described severe mental distress linked to a marital conflict, alleged false accusations against his family, and urged a review of domestic-violence and matrimonial-dispute statutes. His wife had filed a police complaint of domestic violence on Sep 12, and Gohil appeared in court on Oct 9 regarding the matter.

Passersby discovered a motorcycle and a phone near the cliff, prompting Rajur police to involve a drone and mountaineers in the recovery effort. The body was retrieved after about 24 hours and sent to Bhavnagar, with an accidental-death report filed at Tokawade police station. Assistant police inspector Shitalkumar Naik said further action will depend on family statements and the video analysis.
