Gunfight in Manipur kills one and wounds four amid Kuki-Naga clashes
A shootout between Kuki and Naga armed groups in Chassad village, Manipur, left a 36-year-old man dead and four others injured.
Armed factions from the Kuki and Naga communities exchanged fire in Chassad, a Kuki village in Manipur's Kamjong district, starting at about 2.30 pm and lasting into the night. The fighting resulted in the death of 36-year-old Seikhohou Haokip and injured village head Thangjahou Haokip along with Khailun, Hegin and Seipao Haokip. Assam Rifles personnel rescued the casualties and transported them to a paramilitary-run hospital in the village.
Residents alleged involvement by the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isaac Muivah and Tangkhul militants operating from Myanmar, but these claims remain unverified. The Committee on Tribal Unity condemned the attack and called for deployment of central forces, while the state government has not issued a statement. The incident adds to a series of recent killings and injuries linked to the ongoing Kuki-Naga ethnic tension that has already claimed more than 50 lives across several districts.
