Gunfire at Banga National High School injures five students, including suspect

A shooting at Banga National High School in South Cotabato wounded five students, the alleged shooter among them, and all were taken to hospital.

On Friday, gunfire erupted at Banga National High School in South Cotabato, wounding five minors - four victims and the alleged shooter, who also shot himself. Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. reported that all are hospitalized, though some remain in serious condition. Police are investigating the case and have ordered students to return home to manage their emotions.

Tamayo described the event as isolated and called for calm in the municipality. The Department of Education said it is deeply concerned and ready to provide psychological first aid and mental-health support. The shooting follows similar incidents in June at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City and in August at Ateneo de Zamboanga’s junior high campus.
