Gunfire during Baghdad illegal-housing demolition kills army brigadier general

A shooting broke out in Baghdad’s Dora district as troops and municipal workers removed illegal structures, killing an army brigadier general and wounding five others.

In Baghdad’s southern district of Dora, forces assigned to clear illegal housing were ambushed on Thursday. The exchange of fire resulted in the death of an army brigadier general and injuries to a police officer and four municipal employees. A security official, who requested anonymity, reported that police and armed forces quickly cordoned the site, and the Baghdad Operations Commander proceeded to the scene to oversee the response.

The state news agency echoed the report, confirming the fatalities and stating that the municipality acted after receiving legal authorization to remove the structures. Dora, an area with extensive agricultural land, often experiences unauthorized construction. The incident highlights the dangers faced by security and municipal personnel during enforcement actions.
