Gunfire in Canoga Park Alley Leaves Pregnant Woman Critical, Another Injured

A shooter fired into a parked car in a Canoga Park alley, leaving a pregnant woman in critical condition and another woman wounded.

Around 7 a.m. on Sunday, a gunman approached a parked car in an alley on the 8300 block of Northgate Avenue in Canoga Park and fired at the occupants, two 22-year-old women. One of the victims, who is pregnant, was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, while the second woman was hospitalized but expected to survive. The vehicle moved after the shooting, crashing into a refrigerator.

Detectives described the shooter as a 26-year-old Hispanic man and are investigating whether the victims were targeted or caught in the wrong place. A man was initially detained but later released after investigators found no connection. LAPD Detective Rachel Evans said investigators have promising leads, and residents like Olga Valdez reported being awakened by the gunshots, noting a recent deadly shooting nearby.
