Gunmen kill two villagers and wound another in Manipur's Kangpokpi district
Suspected militants opened fire in N Teikhang, Manipur, killing two residents and injuring a third amid ongoing Kuki-Naga clashes.
On Monday morning at about 9:30 am, armed men identified as suspected militants sprayed the Kuki-populated village of N Teikhang in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district with sophisticated firearms, killing Lamtinthang, 35, and Neichin, and wounding 65-year-old Seilun. The barrage also ignited several houses, prompting villagers to seek refuge in surrounding forests. The attack occurred amid a heavy exchange of fire between armed groups from the Kuki and Naga communities in the hill settlement.
It follows a recent vehicle ambush in the district that claimed four Naga civilian lives and injured another. Since the outbreak of Kuki-Naga hostilities in February, more than 20 people have been killed in separate incidents and numerous homes have been torched. Security forces were rushed to the scene in an effort to restore order.
