Gyula mayor pushes for non-political tone at national memorial ceremony

Gyula’s mayor urged that the state-organized memorial for the Arad martyrs remain free of current political messages.

Ernő Görgényi, the mayor of Gyula, publicly declared that the upcoming state-organized commemoration for the Arad martyrs must avoid any reference to current political debates. In a detailed social-media post, he explained that the ceremony will be moved to a later hour than usual to accommodate the joint government event, and emphasized that the day of mourning is not appropriate for partisan division. He recalled past speeches by former defence minister Csaba Hende, former state secretary Szilárd Németh, and deputy state secretary Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, all of which were free of contemporary political content. Görgényi expressed willingness to cooperate with the government regardless of personal political sympathies, and urged that the forthcoming ceremony maintain this neutral tone.
