Haas signs Brazilian F2 leader Rafael Camara to replace Esteban Ocon
Haas announced a multi-year contract with 21-year-old Brazilian driver Rafael Camara, who will take over the seat vacated by Esteban Ocon.
Haas revealed that Brazilian racer Rafael Camara, 21, has secured a multi-year contract to drive for the team next season, filling the vacancy left by Esteban Ocon. Camara, a Ferrari Academy protégé, currently tops the Formula Two championship with two rounds left after winning the previous year’s F3 title. Team principal Ayao Komatsu praised Camara’s junior-formula achievements and his performance in recent testing sessions, including a trial of the VF-25 in Portugal.
The move ends the immediate hopes of reserve driver Jack Doohan for a full-time seat, while fellow Ferrari Academy graduate Oliver Bearman is likely to stay on the roster. Haas sits seventh of eleven teams ahead of the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin, with Bearman contributing most of the team’s points so far.
Why it matters
The signing introduces a rising talent to Haas, potentially reshaping the team's driver lineup and performance in the upcoming season.
