The event’s promoters later withdrew his invitation, saying LGBTQ staff felt unsafe after an X account formerly called @KamalaHQ posted a video suggesting O'Donnell advocated persecuting LGBTQ+ people. O'Donnell shared the organizer’s message, noting the decision was driven by concerns for staff comfort and labeling it as cancel culture fueled by “propaganda from leftist supporters of my political opponent.”
He urged supporters to contribute to his campaign website. SacAnime’s recent social media posts showed backlash from fans, but the convention has not issued an official statement. The incident highlights ongoing tensions between political speech and event organizers’ inclusion policies.
