Hamilton man admits to drugging and assaulting women, Crown pushes dangerous offender label

In Hamilton, Bryan Hayward entered a guilty plea for drugging and sexually assaulting two women, adding to earlier admissions for assaults on seven additional victims. The court heard he used substances such as GHB and other sedatives to render the women unconscious, then filmed the non-consensual acts and uploaded 22 videos to the site Motherless, which were viewed about 144,000 times. One victim later crashed her car while drugged, and another was reported missing after he gave her a depressant, prompting a police search of his downtown condo.

Police also discovered a cache of drugs, including chloroform and methamphetamine, in his mother’s home and evidence that he advised other men online on how to drug and rape women. Crown lawyer Kelli Frew is seeking a dangerous-offender designation, which would allow indefinite confinement, while sentencing remains pending. Hayward also faces a pending sexual-assault trial in Calgary, Alberta, and an associate, Gilles Richard, is scheduled for a separate hearing.
