Hannah Yeoh explains her stance on Najib Razak's postponed pardon

At a Federal Territories Pardons Board session held on September 11, Hannah Yeoh, the minister overseeing the federal territories, presented her perspective on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's bid for a royal pardon. She stressed that her remarks were sincere, conscience-driven, and aimed at the nation's welfare, after taking into account the Attorney-General's written opinion. The board concluded that Najib's pardon request would be postponed to a future meeting, with the final authority residing solely with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.

The following day, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said indicated that any queries about the deferment should be directed to Yeoh, noting that her own ministry only serves as the board's secretariat. Najib remains incarcerated at Kajang Prison, serving a six-year term after his conviction for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International and a reduced fine. The decision follows a February 2024 board ruling that cut his original 12-year sentence and RM210 million fine in half.
