Hanson urges One Nation to back Coalition, vows royal commission on net zero
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson told a Brisbane CPAC audience she would set aside past grievances with the Liberal Party to help form government and promised a royal commission into net-zero policies if she wins the next election.
At the Brisbane CPAC gathering, One Nation’s Pauline Hanson appealed to the crowd to move beyond her historic disputes with the Liberal Party, including a past jail term she attributes to the Coalition, and to work together to unseat the Albanese government. She denounced Opposition Leader Angus Taylor as a "smarmy management consultant" and warned that the Liberals had previously thrown her out and into prison. Hanson pledged that, should her party win the next federal election, she would launch a royal commission to scrutinise net-zero policies and Energy Minister Chris Bowen’s deals.
Taylor, the keynote speaker, acknowledged past Coalition mistakes on spending and immigration but argued his leadership marks a new, more right-leaning direction. Nationals leader Matt Canavan also featured, emphasizing a united right-wing front, while former TV host Karl Stefanovic later interviewed the three politicians.
Why it matters
The speech signals One Nation’s willingness to cooperate with the Liberals, potentially reshaping the opposition’s strategy against the Labor government.
