Harsh Singh became the first Indian male judoka to win Commonwealth Games gold in the men's 60kg division in Glasgow.
Born to an electrician in Dwarka, Delhi, Harsh Singh faced severe economic strain, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown when his family struggled to afford meals. Despite these challenges, he persisted in judo, eventually winning the 2024 National Championships, which earned him a position with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police. After eight to nine months he transferred to the Indian Army, gaining access to better facilities and nutrition.
At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Singh delivered a decisive performance to capture gold in the men's 60kg category, becoming the first Indian male judoka to achieve this feat. His triumph reflects both personal resilience and the support provided by his military employment.
