Harvard dropout's AI startup raises $6 million to guide police in real time
Former Harvard Law student David Lawrence left school to launch Blue Voice, an AI platform that gives officers instant access to department policies, and the company just secured $6 million in financing.
After a campus shooting involving a police officer sparked debate over law-enforcement conduct, David Lawrence dropped out of Harvard Law to develop an AI solution for officers. Partnering with Harvard MBA Amit Patankar and former Boston deputy chief Michael Gropman, he created Blue Voice, which delivers department-specific policy guidance to officers via their phones. Three years on, the startup emerged from stealth with a $6 million round led by SignalFire and Las Olas VC.
Today the service is used daily by agencies in 25 states, handling a question roughly each minute and even providing live school-map data during active-shooter events. Lawrence says the system points users to the original regulations, leaving tactical decisions to the officer. Blue Voice claims to have helped avert a kidnapping and to have reminded a chief about mandatory mental-health evaluations after a shooting, positioning itself against competitors like Lexipol.
