Haryana consumer commission orders Samsung India to refund defective Z Flip6 buyer

A Haryana consumer commission ruled that Samsung India must refund Rs 88,000 to a customer whose Z Flip6 malfunctioned during warranty, adding compensation and interest.

Vicky Kapoor bought a Samsung Z Flip6 for Rs 1,09,999 in December 2024 and soon experienced heating, network drops, and a black screen. After multiple resets at an authorized service centre failed to resolve the issue, the phone was declared out of warranty despite an earlier job sheet stating full warranty. Samsung argued the device was damaged by mishandling, but the Rohtak consumer commission found no credible evidence supporting that claim.

The bench, led by President Nagender Singh Kadian, ordered Samsung India Electronics to refund Rs 88,000 after accounting for 20% depreciation, pay Rs 5,000 for mental agony, Rs 5,000 for litigation expenses, and add 9% yearly interest from the complaint filing date. Samsung must comply within 30 days, and the phone remains with the service centre. The total payout, excluding interest, amounts to Rs 98,000.

Why it matters

The ruling highlights consumer rights enforcement against major tech manufacturers in India.
