Hasan Piker, a socialist-leaning Twitch personality, interrupted a segment on Bill Maher’s show to praise Cea Weaver, a senior aide to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdadi, for her stark statements that reject any government right to confiscate property and advocate “impoverishing the White middle-class.” Piker described Weaver as “awesome” and said she was in “beast mode,” a phrase popularized by former Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch.
Weaver, who grew up in an affluent Rochester neighborhood and attended the local School of the Arts, has been condemned by former mayor Eric Adams for being out of touch. The exchange also referenced Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed’s criticism of Piker’s earlier 2019 comment that America “deserved 9/11.” Piker continued to clash with Maher over historical references to the USSR and China, defending his views by citing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remarks on the Soviet collapse. One outlet sought comments from Weaver’s office and Maher’s network without success.
