Hasan Piker’s remarks on Hamas spark backlash from ADL and RJC

Streamer Hasan Piker called Hamas more moderate than in its early years during a Channel 4 interview, prompting condemnation from the ADL and the Republican Jewish Coalition.

In one outlet's interview, far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker claimed that Hamas’s current stance is far more moderate than at its inception, noting that the group now sees its revenge campaign against Israel as impossible. He linked the violence in Gaza to the broader Israeli occupation and said he does not support Hamas’s domestic governance, though he maintains that Palestinians retain a right to military resistance.

The Anti-Defamation League called his characterization "outrageous," pointing to the October 7 massacre and Hamas’s treatment of Gaza residents. The Republican Jewish Coalition’s national political director, Sam Markstein, also rebuked Piker, highlighting earlier remarks in which he said he would vote for Hamas and describing his alliance with Democratic Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed as a warning to Jewish voters. Both organizations warned that platforms hosting Piker risk lending credibility to extremist narratives. Piker later clarified that he cares about ending the occupation rather than endorsing Hamas’s internal policies.

Why it matters

Piker’s comments influence progressive audiences and raise concerns about normalizing extremist groups.
