Hate flyers targeting Armenians discovered near Glendale elementary school
Derogatory flyers aimed at the Armenian community were found around Glenoaks Elementary in Glendale, prompting a police hate-crime investigation.
Offensive leaflets containing anti-Armenian slurs were discovered in the residential area surrounding Glenoaks Elementary School in Glendale, according to the Glendale Police Department. The materials were fashioned to resemble folded $100 bills and, when opened, displayed a derogatory reference to Armenians along with the phrase "THIS IS AMERICA NOT STUPID ARMENIA." Police are examining the case as a hate incident and have reached out to the Glendale Unified School District for assistance.
The incident coincided with the recent launch of a Western Armenian dual-language immersion program at the school, hailed as a national first. Community leader Lucy Petrosian of ANCA Glendale emphasized the importance of a safe environment for children learning their heritage language. ANCA Glendale has previously reported similar anti-Armenian incidents at churches and schools in the Los Angeles area. Authorities said they will pursue any conduct that creates fear or concern within the community.
