HBO Announces Premiere Dates for Jay-Z Documentary Series "Jay-Z in 8"

HBO has set the rollout for the documentary series "Jay-Z in 8," in which the artist sits down with producer and record executive Rick Rubin to discuss the lyrics and concepts behind his songs across eight episodes. The series will debut with two episodes airing consecutively on September 18 at 8 p.m. ET, and both will be streamed on HBO Max simultaneously. After the premiere, two new episodes will be released each Friday, concluding with the final pair on October 9.

The conversations cover early tracks such as "Brooklyn’s Finest" and "Can’t Knock the Hustle" as well as deeper cuts like "This Can’t Be Life" and "Ignorant Shit." Production credits include Rubin as director, with executive producers Shawn Carter, Daniel Kaluuya, and Rubin, and HBO executive producers Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller, and Sara Rodriguez. The series drops during a high-profile year for Jay-Z, who has recently headlined the Roots Picnic, staged three shows at Yankee Stadium, and has upcoming concerts in London, Paris, and Los Angeles.
