HDZ BiH Leader Calls for Prompt Government Formation and Election Law Reform
HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović said coalition talks will intensify after official results are published, with a focus on amending the election law.
At a broadened session of the party’s presidency in Mostar, HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović indicated that coalition discussions will accelerate after the official election results confirm the party’s mandates. He outlined plans to engage potential allies at both the federal and state tiers, noting that no obstacles exist to adopting laws essential for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU trajectory. Čović expressed concern over more than 400,000 invalid ballots and described the party’s electoral performance as strong across all levels.
He expects the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina to appoint a new structure by mid-next month, paving the way to nominate the Council of Ministers’ chair. While stressing the importance of the House of Peoples’ caucus balance, he cited recent talks with SDP BiH and SNSD as steps toward forming a government quickly, and flagged election-law reform as the foremost political priority.
Why it matters
The timing of government formation and election-law changes will shape Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU integration path.
