Health authorities confirm bacterial contamination in chicken stew and potato puree at Saturn resort hotel
The Constanța Public Health Directorate completed its investigation of a suspected food-borne outbreak at a hotel in Saturn, finding dangerous Enterobacteriaceae in chicken stew and mashed potatoes.
The Constanța County Public Health Directorate finished its epidemiological probe after a probable food-poisoning cluster emerged at a hotel in the Saturn seaside resort. Inspectors gathered samples of drinking water, food items, and hygiene swabs from kitchen personnel and surfaces. Laboratory results showed the water and fecal samples were free of pathogenic germs, but the chicken stew and mashed potatoes contained Enterobacteriaceae concentrations exceeding permitted thresholds.
Among the staff, a nasal swab from one worker revealed Staphylococcus aureus, and skin swabs identified coagulase-positive and hemolytic Staphylococcus species. No pathogenic bacteria were detected in patients' stool cultures. The health authority levied a fine for breaches of personal hygiene rules during work and instructed the employee with Staphylococcus aureus to consult a family or occupational doctor. Additional preventive measures ordered include daily health screening of staff, strict hygiene practices, regular cleaning and disinfection, temperature monitoring, and verification of food storage conditions.
