Health Minister appoints Enikő Váradi as head of Nyírő Gyula psychiatric institute
Health Minister Hegedűs Zsolt announced that psychiatrist Enikő Váradi will lead the Nyírő Gyula National Psychiatric and Addictology Institute.
In a Facebook post, Health Minister Hegedűs Zsolt revealed that Dr. Enikő Váradi won the competition to become director of the Nyírő Gyula Országos Pszichiátriai és Addiktológiai Intézet. Váradi, a psychiatrist and psychotherapist who founded the Főnix Ház - Pszichózis Centrum, will oversee the institute’s operations. The minister outlined her mandate: solidify patient-care safety, keep specialists, reinforce existing teams, create predictable patient pathways, and restore the institute’s national professional standing.
This change comes after a February protest by Budapest psychiatrists, who signed a petition demanding the resignation of former director Robin Ézsi, leading to his departure. The ministry expects Váradi to stabilise the institute and strengthen the psychiatric community.

A new director is expected to raise the quality and stability of psychiatric services at a major Hungarian mental-health centre.
