Health Minister Jan Christian Vestre's wealth nearly doubles, outpacing prime minister

Jan Christian Vestre, Norway's health minister, has seen his personal fortune almost double since 2020, making him the richest cabinet member.

According to the latest tax records, health minister Jan Christian Vestre's assets have risen sharply since his appointment as a cabinet minister in 2020, nearly doubling his fortune to exceed 100 million kroner. The bulk of his wealth is tied to a 70-percent ownership in Vestre AS, a producer of outdoor furniture that he led from age 25 before relinquishing official roles upon joining the government. While his total wealth slipped slightly in the most recent year, the decline was modest compared with the overall growth.

Vestre's earnings as a minister are about 1.8 million kroner annually, and he paid roughly 3.4 million kroner in taxes last year. By contrast, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre's net worth is about half that of Vestre, derived from family investments managed through the firm Femstø.
