Health Minister targets full healthcare overhaul by end of 15th Parliament
Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad announced that Malaysia's healthcare transformation, including system modernisation and better patient services, will be completed within the 15th parliamentary term.
During a launch event in Putrajaya, Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad pledged to finish a nationwide healthcare transformation by the close of the 15th Parliament, aiming for modernised facilities and improved patient service delivery. He highlighted the ministry's dual challenge of maintaining ready infrastructure and ensuring consistent care that meets public needs. Core components of the plan involve streamlining existing systems, boosting the patient experience, and advancing digitalisation through interoperable electronic medical records shared across public and private providers.
The Medicine-by-Post (UMP) initiative, showcased at the event, will allow patients to obtain follow-up medication without visiting a hospital, easing congestion. Dzulkefly referenced earlier pharmacy programmes—Drive-Through Pharmacy, Locker4U, the Local Follow-Up Medicine Supply Centre, and the MyUbat app—that have been introduced over the past decade. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Deputy Teo Nie Ching, and senior communications officials also attended the ceremony.
