Health Ministry seeks higher Flying Doctor Service allowance after recent helicopter crash

In late November 2025, the Health Ministry forwarded a proposal to increase the allowance for staff serving in the Flying Doctor Service, a move highlighted by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad as part of ongoing welfare efforts. He noted that the current RM30 rate does not match the hazards and responsibilities of the role and that the ministry, together with senior officials, has been actively addressing the issue.

The ministry expects a favorable decision from the appropriate authorities and will announce the outcome once known. The proposal was raised shortly after the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia confirmed that a BO-105 helicopter carrying five occupants crashed near Long Lellang STOLport in Sarawak. The incident was reported to the Flight Information Service at 3.58 pm.
