Health warning issued for U brand canned whole tuna sold across France

French health authorities have declared certain U brand whole-tuna cans unsafe to eat and ordered a nationwide recall.

France's health regulators have labeled specific whole-tuna canned products from the Coopérative U group as hazardous and have initiated a country-wide recall. The affected items are the 312-gram "thon entier listao naturel pêche ligne U" and the "thon Entier au Naturel" cans, which are sold in 70-gram and 265-gram sizes. The recall stems from a packaging flaw that may lead to dented cans, loss of brine and product degradation, posing a risk to consumers.

The government’s RappelConso portal lists the recall and advises the public to discard the tins and avoid consumption. Shoppers can bring the recalled cans back to any U retailer to receive a full refund.

Why it matters

A faulty food product can cause health issues, and the recall affects many consumers nationwide.
