Heart Aerospace's X1 electric aircraft completes inaugural 27-minute flight

Heart Aerospace successfully flew its X1 demonstrator for 27 minutes on battery power, using less than $5 of electricity.

Heart Aerospace announced that its X1 demonstrator achieved a maiden flight, taking off from Plattsburgh International Airport in Upstate New York and remaining airborne for 27 minutes at an altitude of roughly 1,100 feet. The aircraft ran solely on its onboard batteries, consuming less than $5 worth of electricity for the entire take-off, cruise, and landing sequence. Executives from United Airlines and Air Canada have praised the achievement and shown interest in incorporating electric planes into their fleets.

The company’s next step is the ES-30, a 30-seat hybrid aircraft designed for regional routes, with an all-electric range goal of 125 miles and up to 500 miles using the hybrid engine. Heart aims to launch the ES-30 by 2031, hoping lower energy and maintenance costs will make short-haul flights cheaper than current turboprop services. The firm will compete with other aviation startups such as Boom Supersonic, Harbour Air, ZeroAvia, and Rolls-Royce, while acknowledging that advances in battery density are critical to broader electric-flight adoption.
