Heat peak and thunderstorms expected across Hungary this week
Hungary will see its hottest day mid-week followed by scattered thunderstorms, especially over the western region.
Forecasters expect the highest temperatures of the week to occur on Wednesday, with afternoon highs climbing to between 30 and 36 degrees Celsius in many parts of Hungary. From the afternoon onward, the western region (Dunántúl) is likely to see the formation of towering clouds that could produce rain and thunderstorms, while the east remains mostly clear. A south-westerly wind will strengthen in places before turning north-west in the evening.
HungaroMet has placed a first-degree yellow alert for thunderstorms in eleven counties, citing lightning as the primary hazard and noting the occasional risk of strong winds or hail. A cold front is forecast to move in later in the week, bringing increased cloud cover and cooler temperatures, with morning lows dropping to the low teens and afternoon highs to the 20s.
