Heavy rain triggers temporary carpet fix after ramp collapse on Ganga Expressway
A section of an entry ramp on the Ganga Expressway in Unnao gave way during heavy rain, and workers covered the breach with a carpet before repairing it.
Intense rainfall in Unnao eroded the soil under an entry ramp of the Ganga Expressway near milestone 423 km at Dahi Chowki, leading to a collapse on the Unnao-Raebareli-bound carriageway. Workers quickly placed a carpet over the gap to divert water and bought time for repairs. The expressway’s concessionaire and its contractor filled the void with concrete and boulders, completing the fix in about two and a half hours.
Simultaneously, the toll plaza close to Dahi Chowki experienced waterlogging, prompting UPEIDA officials to issue directives for remediation. Private toll-plaza managers imposed restrictions due to nearby high-voltage lines, and a retaining wall is planned to prevent future flooding. The incident coincided with district authorities closing schools because of the persistent rain.
