Heavy rains cause floods and landslides killing 12 in Baglung district
Torrential rain triggered floods and landslides across Baglung district, resulting in 12 deaths and extensive property damage.
In Baglung district, continuous heavy rain over the past week led to a series of floods and landslides that killed 12 people on September 25, 26 and 27. The fatalities included one resident in Tarakhola Rural Municipality whose home was buried by a landslide, three more deaths and five injuries in the same municipality, four deaths in Tamankhola Rural Municipality, and five deaths with one person still missing in Nisikhola Rural Municipality.
Police officials reported that the disasters destroyed 51 houses and partially damaged another 51, as well as demolishing three suspension bridges and a ward office. Two police stations and two hydropower projects also incurred partial damage. Superintendent of Police Phanindra Prasai and Inspector Yam Narayan Aryal provided the casualty and damage figures.
