Heavy rains flood Istanbul, killing two and prompting massive emergency response

Intense rainfall on Oct 14 caused widespread flooding across Istanbul, submerging apartments, commercial areas and road tunnels. The floodwaters claimed the lives of a 14‑year‑old in Fatih and a 34‑year‑old in Sarıyer. Authorities opened shelters in public guesthouses and suspended in‑person classes while placing some public employees on leave. The Interior Minister announced that more than 55,000 responders, thousands of vehicles and dozens of boats are being deployed to assist with evacuations and rescue operations.
