Heavy rains force evacuation of 118 residents to four shelters in Penampang
Following overnight downpours, authorities moved 118 flood victims from 41 families into four temporary relief centres in Penampang.
Heavy rain overnight caused the Sungai Moyog to surge to 9.12 metres, prompting the Penampang District Disaster Management Committee chair, Noemi Dyena John Tren, to label the event a disaster. The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee reported that 118 individuals from 41 families have been relocated to four temporary relief centres: Penampang Sports Complex (40 people, seven families), Huguan Siou Hall (31 people, 11 families), Penampang Parish Hall (29 people, 16 families) and St Paul Kolopis (18 people, seven families).
Flooding impacted 15 villages, including Kampung Penampang Proper and Kampung Kolopis, and submerged twelve roads, some of which remain usable. Local officials and security forces continue to monitor conditions and provide updates to ensure resident safety.
