Heavy rainstorms flood Tripoli, causing two fatalities

Intense downpours in Tripoli led to flooding that killed two people, according to authorities and local media.

Torrential rain fell over Tripoli for about two and a half hours, creating floodwaters that submerged roads and vehicles. An employee of Jumhouria Bank died from an electric shock, and another person was found dead in a car that sank. The mayor of Central Tripoli, Fadel Abu Arqoub, described the situation as catastrophic, and the electricity provider cut power in affected neighborhoods as a precaution.

Why it matters

The floods highlight Tripoli's vulnerability to extreme weather and the need for improved urban drainage and emergency response.
