Helicopter crash during forest liming kills pilot near Sehmatal

Around 9.55 am, a helicopter engaged in liming operations over a forest near Sehmatal in the Ore Mountains crashed, resulting in the death of the only person aboard. Emergency crews, including over 85 firefighters, arrived quickly and put out the fire that broke out after the impact. Rescue personnel managed to extract the pilot, but he died from his wounds despite prompt medical assistance at the scene.

Police officials have withheld the pilot's name and have not disclosed the factors that led to the crash. The incident was reported by the police directorate in Chemnitz, and district fire chief Falko Auerswald noted that a fire engine remained on site to complete safety checks.
