Helicopter stolen from Mauterndorf airfield hangar, police launch investigation
Unknown thieves took a Robinson R44 helicopter from a hangar at the Mauterndorf airfield, prompting a police inquiry.
In the early hours of Monday, an unknown party breached a hangar at the Mauterndorf airfield and stole a Robinson R44 helicopter. The aircraft, operated by Thomas Morgenstern Helicopters, serves for sightseeing, transport, as well as photo and film missions. A club member heard the helicopter's start-up sounds but failed to contact the pilot, and upon inspection found evidence of a break-in.
Police were notified, and the Salzburg State Criminal Police Office (LKA) has taken charge of the case, pursuing leads in multiple directions. Authorities have said the stolen helicopter was later detected over Croatian airspace. The investigation remains ongoing.
