Helsinki police officer accused of rape and human-trafficking in detention cell
A Helsinki police officer from the human-trafficking investigation unit is suspected of rape, sexual coercion, human trafficking and abuse of authority for acts alleged to have taken place in a police detention cell between March 2024 and July 2025, and the case has been forwarded to prosecutors.
Investigators allege that a police officer attached to Helsinki's human-trafficking investigation unit committed rape, sexual coercion, human trafficking and abuse of office against a woman detained in a police cell between March 2024 and July 2025, with some acts occurring during his shift. The woman, who was in custody on suspicion of leading a prostitution ring, reported the assault in August 2025. The officer has denied the sexual and trafficking accusations but acknowledged wrongdoing tied to his rank.
The probe, completed in August, resulted in his arrest, the confiscation of his phone and computer, and the termination of the constable who had handled the case. The matter has now been sent to the Prosecutor's Office for possible charges.
