Hezbollah munition detonates during Israeli school hike, killing teen and injuring many
A 14-year-old student was killed and several others wounded when a Hezbollah device exploded near the Lebanon border during a school trip.
During a class excursion in the Naftali Mountains Forest, a Hezbollah munition that had fallen to the ground exploded, killing a 14-year-old boy and wounding multiple participants. Investigators believe a student may have retrieved the device and placed it in a backpack before it detonated minutes later. Three individuals suffered serious injuries, while at least ten others sustained less severe wounds, including both students and teachers.
Emergency services evacuated the hikers and transported the injured to three hospitals in northern Israel. Police Commissioner Danny Levy said the incident will prompt stricter hiking limits in the vicinity for several days as bomb squads search for additional hazards. The area had previously been marked with warnings about unexploded ordnance.
