Hezbollah says it will not join any new Iran-US or Iran-Israel clash
Hezbollah told Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri it will stay out of any fresh war between Iran and the United States or Israel, according to a report.
Hezbollah informed speaker Nabih Berri that it will not intervene on Iran’s behalf if a fresh war erupts between Tehran, the United States and Israel, a claim. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh reportedly told Hezbollah and Amal lawmakers in Beirut that Iran could defend itself without the Lebanese group, citing the military imbalance with Israel. The Iranian embassy subsequently rejected media reports of Khatibzadeh’s visit and remarks.
President Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking on state TV, blamed Washington for the failure of a previous agreement and called for renewed talks. Parallel diplomatic activity includes Pakistan army chief Asim Munir’s recent visit to Iran and a Qatar-based report of preliminary understandings on negotiations and the possible release of $6 billion in Iranian funds. U.S. officials, however, remain wary, with intelligence memos indicating heightened targeting of American diplomats in the region.
Why it matters
Hezbollah’s decision reduces the risk of Lebanon being drawn into a wider Iran-US or Iran-Israel war.
