High Court issues arrest warrant for suspect in kidnapping case

Judge Arief Emran Arifin ordered a warrant for Iqmal Abdul Rahis after attempts to locate him failed, returning a RM50,000 bond to his guarantor.

High Court Judge Arief Emran Arifin issued an arrest warrant for 31-year-old Iqmal Abdul Rahis after the court was informed that efforts to find him were unsuccessful. Deputy Public Prosecutor Zaileen Nadia Zubir told the court that police have been trying to locate Iqmal since 11 September, including a visit to his village in Banting, Selangor. Iqmal's father said his son has not been home since January, while the unnamed guarantor reported that Iqmal's siblings do not know his location.

The judge ordered the RM50,000 bond to be returned to the guarantor in recognition of his help. The case involves eight defendants charged with kidnapping Omar ZM Al-Belbaisy on 28 September 2022 and related money-laundering offenses totaling over RM250,000. The defendants face up to 40 years in prison under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act.
