Higher Education Minister Demands Classes Resume Monday Amid Student Protests
Minister Philippe Baptiste told France 2 that school work must restart on Monday, rejecting calls for continued blockades by student groups.
During a televised interview on Tuesday, higher-education minister Philippe Baptiste asserted that instruction must recommence on Monday, dismissing the legitimacy of school blockades. He acknowledged the right to demonstrate but stressed that it does not extend to obstructing classes. Baptiste said discussions with teachers' unions and student bodies will keep progressing.
The government presented several reforms for the Parcoursup platform, including a clearer, more transparent interface and anonymised performance indicators, with a full overhaul planned for 2028. He also noted that some students who recently entered university have already lost four weeks of instruction, which he deemed unacceptable. While negotiations will not cease, the minister insisted that academic activities must resume without further disruption.
